Where our students live and learn

We are a young school in a remote district. What we have is modest, cared for, and built for children to actually live in.

On campus

What we have built so far

Everything here was put up with the support of the Donyi-Polo Cultural and Charitable Trust and the families of this district. We would rather show you what exists than promise what does not.

Classrooms

Bright, airy rooms built in local bamboo and timber by craftsmen from the surrounding villages. Small class sizes by design.

Prayer hall at Nyibu Nyigam Yarku, Yekar

Prayer hall

Where every day opens and closes together, with the words Donyi-Polo Aya Jilaka. Also used for assemblies and cultural teaching.

The school building at Nyibu Nyigam Yarku, Yekar

The school building

Built by local craftsmen in bamboo and timber, open to the light and the air of the valley it stands in.

Also on campus

These are part of daily life here but have not been photographed yet. We would rather list them plainly than illustrate them with a picture that is not ours.

  • Residential hostel
Separate supervised dormitories for boys and girls, with house staff on site through the night. Bedding and basic necessities are provided.
  • Kitchen and dining hall
Three cooked meals a day prepared on site, with local produce wherever we can source it. Students take turns helping.
  • Grounds and kitchen garden
Open ground for games, and a garden the students help tend. Part of what is eaten here is grown here.
  • Health and safety
[FILL IN — describe first-aid arrangements, the nearest health centre at Daporijo, and how emergencies are handled.]

What we do not have yet

We opened in 2025. A computer room, a proper science laboratory and a stocked library are all planned, and all still ahead of us. We will put them on this page when they exist, and not before.

If you or your organisation would like to help us get there, the school office would be glad to hear from you.
