A new chapter begins: our first batch arrives

On 27 July 2026 the first students of Nyibu Nyigam Yarku walked through our gates, and a long-held dream became a school.

On 27 July 2026, Nyibu Nyigam Yarku – Yekar welcomed its first batch of students.

The morning began the way every morning here will begin: quietly, with folded hands, and with the words Donyi-Polo Aya Jilaka. Parents had walked in from villages across the Upper Subansiri valley. Some had travelled since the night before.

This school was founded in 2025 under the aegis of the Donyi-Polo Cultural and Charitable Trust, with one conviction — that a child does not have to choose between a modern education and an inherited one. Our students will learn mathematics and English. They will also learn the names of their clans, the songs of the Nyibu, and why the sun and the moon are spoken of together.

May these young minds grow into confident, compassionate and responsible citizens.
